WakeUP Wake County Announces Appointment of New Board Members

Raleigh, NC-June 17, 2010-As WakeUP Wake County begins its fourth year as THE advocacy organization for responsible growth and a sustainable future in Wake County, it is pleased to announce the appointment of three outstanding community leaders to its Board of Directors:  Paul Morris, Matt Danielson and Brent Laurenz.  Each of these new members brings significant experience with key growth and development issues central to our quality of life in Wake County.
 
Paul Morris brings his talents to the board around issues of urban regeneration, transit oriented development, sustainability and public-private partnerships. He currently serves as President and Principal Consultant for Greenleaf Strategies, LLC and has thirty years of experience as a planning and development strategist, working in the areas of urban planning, environmental design, public policy and growth management. Morris earned a Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Oregon and a Certificate in Innovations in Zoning, Planning, and Development from Harvard University.
 
Matt Danielson brings vital expertise to WakeUP in the areas of transit planning and growth management. He is Land and Development Broker, Byrd Commercial, and a member of the NC REAL Board of Directors. A resident of Cary, Danielson has served on the Town of Cary's planning and zoning board, and is a former member of the Urban Land Institute and American Planning Association.  Danielson holds a Master's in Public Policy and a Bachelor's in Political Science from Hamline University.

Brent Laurenz's experience as a field organizer and working with nonprofit organizations will assist WakeUP in its advocacy and outreach efforts.  He holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Virginia Tech and a Master of Arts in Political Management from George Washington University.   Currently, Laurenz is the Director of Outreach for the NC Center for Voter Education. Mr. Laurenz has worked to protect historic lands and open spaces and collaborated with local governments to ensure responsible planning and zoning.
