WakeUP Welcomes New Board Members

WakeUP would like to extend a warm welcome to its new 2010 Board members: Ram Athavale, Beverley Clark, Abeni El-Amin, Irene Gonzalez, and Don Mial.

Ram Athavale is a mathematics instructor at Wake Technical Community College, and sits on the Executive Committee of the North Carolina chapter of the Indian-American Forum for Political Education.  He resides in Cary.

Beverley Clark is a mediator in Wake County.  She has served on the Wake County Board of Education and used to be the SE Regional Attorney for The Nature Conservancy.  She lives in Raleigh.

Abeni El-Amin is a political organizer and a former adjunct professor at Shaw and St. Augustine’s Universities.  She currently serves as Chair of the Raleigh Human Relations Board and lives in Raleigh.

Irene Gonzalez is an account manager at Univision and former president of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.  She resides in Fuquay-Varina.

Don Mial is a Unit Manager at the NC Department of Juvenile Justice.  He previously served as vice-president for the Raleigh Wake Citizens Association, and is currently a member of the NC Crime Victim Commission.  He lives in Knightdale-Raleigh.

WakeUP is excited to have Ram, Beverley, Abeni, Irene and Don on-board, and appreciates their willingness to dedicate their time and expertise to the organization.  We will miss outgoing Board members Greg Flynn, Matty Lazo-Chadderton, and JJ Scott and will never forget their hard work and dedication to WakeUP and Wake County!
